Product Description |
|
Based on a major, four-year study of superb evangelism, funded by the Lilly Endowment, Unbinding the Gospel sparkles with life, practicality and spiritual depth. Unbinding the Gospel: Real Life Evangelism is a book for pastors who want to know the truth about the state of evangelism. Recently selected by The Christian Century as a featured "Take and Read"book (2007 book issue), Unbinding the Gospel is a book for Christians who want a hopeful, powerful, joy-filled way to learn to share their faith. (It's also a book for people who cringe when they hear the "E" word!) This book for congregational use has been enthusiastically endorsed by 8 heads of denominations, Brian McLaren, Todd Hunter, Richard Peace, Becky Garrison, as well as by countless pastors and church leaders. Unbinding the Gospel is the foundation of the Real Life Evangelism Series, which can, with the two other Series books, lead to a six-week, all-congregation study with individual prayer, small group study and all-church worship and prayer dimensions. See Unbinding Your Heart: 40 Days of Prayer & Faith Sharing and Unbinding Your Church (the Pastor's Guide). |

Not so hot |
|
The author oversells her book. It's mostly same-old-same-old, hardly the fresh new approach to evangelism that the author promises. |

Powerful resource |
|
This book was used as a resource for the Elders and Governing Board Members of our church. I have been in ministry for over 25 years and specialize in education, specifically training leaders. This book has generated more enthusiasm and excitement than any other resource I have used. It is already affecting the way we are church and we are looking for ways to bring more people into the process by offering the next book in the series which is not aimed specifically at church leaders but is meant for all church members. |

Life changing |
|
Heartfelt, accurate, concise and honest, this book years to find the truth in how to make churches and their congregations change their existences in a powerful direction. Backed by an accumulation of meticulously gathered research, this book is not only appealing to the academic, but those searching for greater depth in their lives. I couldn't recommend a book more! |

Unbinding the Gospel Unbinds the Hidden Power in Church |
For years I have observed as writer after writer have written tricks, techniques, programs, and virtually every other tool known to humankind to "grow" the church. Yet, after a year or two, they are gone, reality is back, and the reader and the church is right back where it started. THIS BOOK IS NOT THAT KIND OF BOOK!
Reese makes it clear that Unbinding the Gospel is NOT about some special program, some new technique, nor some shebboleth ridden tool for transformation, it is ALL about developing a relationship with God and other believers by way of prayer, Bible study and simply BEING the people of God. Further, her comments about that nasty, toxic word, evangelism, is right on target...I have never seen a room clear faster than when we tried to teach "evangelism". But can evangelism be taught...or must it first be caught?
If you are looking for a line by line, week by week, checklist for growing a church, this is NOT it. If you are looking for a line by line, week be week way of growing in love of God, this IS the book. As a minister, I found it to be scripturally sound, hermaneutically correct, but also an EASY read. Yet, this text is challenging in that it convicted me in my own lack of spiritual growth and connectednesss. As a result, my own faith has been renewed and strengthened, leading to me being more effective as a pastor, parent, friend, Christian.
Want a great, easy to read book that just may CHANGE your life and your church? Get this book. Want more, get the other 3 in the series...Unbinding Your Heart, Unbinding Your Church and Unbinding Your Soul. It is all money very well spent! |
