The pre-Hotel California years were arguably the best for The Eagles (though there were, thanks to Joe Walsh, some stellar future moments). Their mix of country, folk, and rock had a harder, grittier edge, and helped define what would become known as the Southern California sound. There was just enough of a country feel in the beautiful harmonies of "Best of My Love," to blur the edges between the genres. "Take It Easy" and "Lyin' Eyes" could easily have come out of the new Nashville school, as well. The twang that characterizes the guitar intro to "Already Gone" and the leads in "Witchy Woman" and "One of These Nights," also pays tribute to country's guitar greats. Greatest Hits 1971-1975 houses a scant ten singles, but not only does it illustrate the magic of the collaboration between Glen Frey and Don Henley, it shows the breadth of The Eagles impact on the many who would follow their lead. --Steve Gdula |

Eagles review |
I really love the EAGLES-THEIR GREATEST HITS It is almost like being out in the
top of a mountain meadow and the music really relaxes me. Plus I camp allot and
when I hear the Eagles music I feel free like an eagle and it brings me back
to the good old days when I was younger. |

Excellent Hits Album!! |
|
Even though this hits collection only offers 10 songs, they are 10 excellent songs that will stand the test of time, in my opinion. I know they have more updated hits packages but for some reason I really enjoy this one the best. Greatest Hits Vol 2 is great also but a bit more inconsistent than this one. Buy this and you won't regret it. |

not the product that is advetised |

This is NOT an import, it is the generic greatest hits found in stores. It is not housed in a mini lp slip case, but the normal jewel case found in stores |

What more could one ask for? |
Absolutely acceptable musicianship all around: competent guitar, rhythmic bass, time-keeping drums, and above all, inoffensive songs that are very easy on the ear.
"Take it to the Limit" was playing in a restaurant whilst I was having dinner with my parents. Mom and Dad, who hate all things rock, weren't offended at all with this wonderfully benign offering. In fact, this material is so precisely innocuous that it finds its way into department stores and even strip malls.
In fact, one could use this album as the basis for a sort of bingo game: A few friends each get bingo cards with these and other Eagles tunes on them, arranged in differing orders, and when one of these songs plays on classic rock radio, the player(s) that hears it gets to cover the corresponding square. The first one to fill up a row (which would take about a day, tops) wins! What do they win? Why, the two-CD set, of course! Sorta relies on the honor system, but I think it still has promise.
Anyway, The Eagles had yet to release the pretty good "Hotel California," but this compilation has sold millions regardless.
(Tune to your local classic rock station...which tunes will it be?)
