Album Description |
|
The Super Audio CD (SACD) features two disc layers. One layer contains a standard version of the album that works on any CD player. The other layer includes high-resolution stereo and a 5.1 surround version of the recording that works on SACD-compatible DVD players and home theater systems. Both layers employ SACD's Direct Stream Digital (DSD) encoding process that samples the music 64 times faster than CD for unprecedented fidelity. |

Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band. --Genevieve Williams |

Everyone knows this material. NO need for a review. This mix is a bit different and I like it. |

UGH! |
Probably one of the most recognizable titles in the music industry.
Too bad the only tune I consider passable is "Money". The rest of the
music on this CD stinks. |

Wow! |
This sounds awesome in surround sound.
If you like Pink Floyd, you haven't really heard their music until you can hear it in surround. |

Amazing Dark Side |
This album definitely carves a spin on the traditional Eurocentric Symbolisms of Dark, for Dark Side of the Moon is quite a beautiful, delicately balanced creation of peace and chaos. Be aware that this wonderful album will take you on a ride to the Dark Side if you let it, the way the instruments play is a precursor to meditation. The chaotic elements introduced- those of mundane objects like clocks and registers, create interesting, experimental cleavages (i.e., at once splicing and uniting), and precede two of my favorite songs in the album- Time and Money. I gotta tell you, though, prepare your soul for the soul wrenching 'Gig in the Sky' where a female voice moves up and down the sound scale with the facility of a warm knife through butter, taking you to extremes of euphorious highs and sexy lows.
CAUTION: THIS IS NOT AN ALBUM TO BE PLAYED ON RANDOM, it was masterpieced together from beginning to end, one song transitting onto the next. I recommend you take a long walk with your Discman and this baby in its womb down a quiet street, give yourself 50 minutes- From experience, my promise: This album will carry you... you will not feel that walk. |
